• Well, Then… Hello, Rain!

Wait a second – what happened to the sun?

To be honest, I was not expecting all this rain. One second it was hot and humid, the next second it was pouring! And…it kept pouring! A lot!

A few days after that, I checked the Weather app on my computer. It was fine for a bit, at least the following week. But now, as I checked the Weather app for this week (the week of Monday, August 24), I see more rain scheduled to happen! Although most of the percentages are below 50%, more than half the days of the week could possibly, in fact, have rain.

It’s not that I don’t like rain – actually, I like it much more than the scorching 90° weather we’ve been having for a long time now. It’s fun to watch the rain go by through the window, or even sit on the porch and just listen to it. This week could most likely be great…if I didn’t have to walk a half an hour every day of the week. I’ll be able to handle it though, thanks to my trusty friends named Umbrella and Coat. Thanks guys!

Being real, this drawing just randomly popped into my head. I was thinking, I kinda want to draw something more anime style, and I pretty much failed – this was the outcome! I think the hair was the hardest to decide. There are so many options for hairstyles! I decided to go with a curl, because I had never done that particular style of hair before. It…looks a little weird. But still, I wasn’t totally upset by what came out of this streak of creativity. After all, it’s still a drawing!

  • …Is That You, Hornet?

So…my only explanation is that I was bored.

It was before I started working, before I had something that would occupy me from 9:00 to 3:00, before I had other things to do with my time. Sometimes I would write my short story, sometimes I would draw, sometimes I would play video games. In this case, it was after I had finished my favorite video game and didn’t really have anything else to do. So, I was messing around with Hollow Knight characters on Procreate, and somehow I ended up with this.

It would be cool to anthropomorphize Hornet, I thought to myself one day. I started out with a human body, but it looked too weird to me for Hornet to have human hands and shoes. So, I made the ends of her limbs pointy, like the actual character. Better, I commented. Then, I added a puffer jacket and some jeans. It felt right to have Hornet be kind of a rebel. But…I felt I was varying too far from original, so I looked at actual Hornet and decided that, to make it more similar, she should have a dress. I didn’t want a boring, one-piece dress, because Hornet deserved better. She was a more interesting gal. I made the dress more interesting – separating the top and bottom, adding more pieces to the skirt – and this is what I ended up with.

I usually save the head for last when I draw, so I was still dreading what I would do. I wanted her to have hair, but the real Hornet head with some hair wouldn’t do. I made the head a mask that was thrown to the side, and drew a human head. I had no idea what I would do for the face, so I just… didn’t. I blurred some colors together and, voila. Now, I didn’t draw the background. I want to make that extremely clear. The background is not one of my own creation. I literally just looked up something like: “silksong game backgrounds” and found one that I liked. Then, I imported it into Procreate and positioned the floor so that the bottom of the legs were standing on it. Then, I was done! It was super fun to create this sort-of Hornet!

  • I Don’t Like You, Summer Work!

Anyone severely dislike doing reading responses in the summer? Me too!

I was enjoying my summer. I had just come back from a two-week sleepaway camp, Stokes Music Camp, which was very fun. I was lounging around, drawing and playing video games. Then…I remembered. I still had my reading responses and math packet to do!

Eventually, after about three days, I finally picked up enough motivation to drag myself over to the table and complete the math packet. It took me maybe a half hour, which wasn’t very long. The rest of the day was spent drawing and listening to MIO: Memories In Orbit lore videos. The second half of the day was very enjoyable. Not the first half.

I started my reading responses about three or four days later. I really didn’t enjoy it. I don’t think they’re a good idea, overall! But I get why they implement them. (not really)

This drawing was made a long time ago, maybe a year or two. I did trace it, but that was before I knew how to draw. I was, like, nine years old and I didn’t start my art class yet. I still like the concept, though! I think it’s cool to mix different video game characters in different scenarios.

  • Happy August!

    Welcome to August, everyone!!

August, for me at least, is bittersweet. On one hand, we have the fact that school is going to be starting in about a month, which could be good or bad depending who you are. I’m going into 7th grade, and I’m honestly kind of in between on the nervous/excited scale. So, that’s kind of neutral. On the other hand, summer break and all the freedom is ending! I won’t be able to wake up at 8:00 anymore, and I’ll have all the stress of a school year to manage. On a third hand (I probably got my friend over to use their hand – despite what you may think, I don’t have three hands), the weather won’t be so extremely gross and muggy and hot, and mosquitos will be banished to the dark realm. I’m pretty excited for that.

I, personally, am getting my ears pierced this August, for my summer birthday. I’m really looking forward to that, and it’s basically one of the two reasons that I’ll enjoy this month! The other is my “job” working as an assistant at my favorite art camp. It’s weird to look forward to work!

Whether you think August is good or bad, happy or sad, glad or dark-clad (I don’t know I was just trying to rhyme), it’s still coming, if you want it to or not. So I think we should make the most of it! Celebrate that free will while you still can, or get a head start on gathering school supplies. Anything that floats your boat.

I made this drawing just for this post. I think my favorite part about it is the boba, which is always a great treat on a hot day. And yes, I know that the pool chair and the sky are the same color and I probably should have fixed that, but I didn’t notice it until after I uploaded it here! Oh well.

    Have a great August, everyone!!

  • Troupe Waiter Grimm

Well… Now the Grimm Troupe can dine well, I guess!

My brother, who is away at sleepaway camp, told me that one of his friends drew Troupe Master Grimm from Hollow Knight as a waiter, and sent me a picture of the drawing. His was drawn on paper. I thought, This is a cool idea! I wanna do this! So I did. Credits to this guy who did it first for the idea. I don’t even know if it was his, but that’s where I got it, so I’m guessing it was.

So…this is how I ended up with this drawing! I really liked how it came out, except for that hand that is actually making me crash out but we don’t talk about that. I thought the buttons on the suit would be a fun detail, as well as the dialouge and champagne bottle. This is actually my first (but not last!) time drawing Mr. Grimm without tracing him, I think, so I’m glad that I can actually do it!

It was honestly really fun drawing this dude. The design is really cool! it might be one of my favorites in the game. Serve on!

  • Oh, The Humidity…

    Oh, The Humidity…

    Man…it’s just so humid outside!

I’m to the point that I’m afraid to leave a book open, because the pages will just turn to mush! Books aren’t the only thing in danger, though. Food can get soggy, especially crispy things. They just soak up the moisture in the air… The bad part is that it’s not even that hot outside – only the wetness in the air is bothering me. This means that, while the pool or some water-related activity would be nice, it wouldn’t be as effective compared to warmer weather.

It feels like everything is just a little bit damp – for me, one of the worst feelings in the world! Everything I touch is just…squishy. Ew!

This artwork was made more than a year ago, and it was still perfect for this post! Once in a while, I make a “newspaper article” cover, just because it’s fun. The made-up news outlet is Clover Hill News, CHN, because Clover Hill is the place where most of my OCs live. The second I made this post I knew exactly what cover I would put on it!

For this drawing, I used a different brush than I had on previous art. It’s more like a pencil, and thus has a rougher appearance. It’s also in a different style than what I made before. My favorite part about this art is the shine and shadow on the bubbles!

  • Welcome to Summer!

    Welcome to Summer!

Happy last day of school, everybody! I hope you all had a great time this school year – I did!

I can’t believe that the school year is over already… It feels like it should still be January! I just want to thank my friends – you know who you are – for always making school more fun and helping me when I needed it. You guys are the people who gave me the motivation I needed to go to school every day! Also, I hope everybody had as great a time this year as I did. 6th grade was really one of the more fun years of school for me. Being the general start of real middle school, it was a little scary at first. I definitely had to get used to the changing of classes and getting lockers for the first time. My teachers and classmates were really fun though, and I’m grateful for all of you!

Special shout-out to Ms. Frank, teacher at LMS, who’s retiring this year. Thanks for being an amazing social studies teacher and I hope your retirement treats you well!

I made the little drawing above because that’s what I feel like many friend groups were doing today: taking a final picture before the end of the school year to remember 6th grade.

I will probably still post over the summer, but still – have an amazing summer, everyone! 🙂

  • It’s the Last Week of School Already?

It’s the Last Week of School Already?

Guys…it’s already the last week of school! How did this year go by so fast?!

There’s no way it’s already the last Monday of the school year. No way! Tomorrow we start half days, and Thursday is when we end! It’s kind of an awkward time to start something, but…it’s fine.

Time has really flown this past year. It feels, well, wrong that school should be ending in only a few days, and it’s the first year where I’d felt like that. My friends agree with me, so I’m glad I’m not just going crazy. But…that could be true too. I’m working on always keeping my mind open.

Anyway, I have mixed feelings about the end of this year. I’m glad to have a break, but at the same time it’s kind of sad! I don’t really want to leave all of my beloved teachers, do I? Even if it means freedom? To add to this, I’m only looking forward to certain aspects of the summer; for example, I love the pool, but hate the intense, insanely humid heat.

And… this is where I talk about the artwork at the head of this entry. I had actually made this drawing before the post, so I was looking for artwork to use for this and it seemed like the perfect opportunity. When I made it I was trying out different anime styles, and ended up with the image you see here.

(of course, the dialog was added afterward!)

  • Hello, Everybody, and Welcome to the Roxoverse!

Hello, Everybody, and Welcome to the Roxoverse!

Greetings to all, whoever you may be! You have just entered the Roxoverse.

The Roxoverse is a fun little universe where I, Roxie Caravella, post little messages and drawings that I make, all just for fun. It’s open to whoever wants to read a 12-year-old’s drawing blog. To be honest, I’m not sure how many people that is.

I first made this just because I wanted a little thing to share with my friends, and that’s probably all it will be. I’m not advertising or marketing anything, so, chance is, you’ll likely only discover this if someone (presumably someone I know) tells you about it. But I’m fine with that!

Most likely, the messages I post will only be about little things that are going on, like the end of school or just how hot it is outside. The art that comes with it is probably going to be more interesting! I use the application Procreate, which has been extremely fun and easy to use and I really enjoy working with it.

If you’re wondering, I don’t think I’ll have a set schedule for posting – just whenever I have a bit of free time or if something major happens!

Overall, this blog is just a fun little side project for me, and I hope you enjoy reading it!
